Building Automation
Building automation, otherwise known as a building management system, is the centralized control of the essential functions of a building such as heating, lighting, access control and security systems. It is typically used to reduce energy consumption and boost security measures.
Building automation systems are most commonly implemented on large properties with extensive mechanical and electrical systems. Buildings controlled by this system are typically referred to as “intelligent buildings” or “smart buildings”.
Motion sensors such as PIRs monitor activity and are ideal for controlling lighting in low occupancy areas so that lighting is turned on when the sensors detect motion and turned off again after a defined period of inactivity.
Area counting provides a record of how many people are in a particular area. When combined with anti-passback, this provides an accurate record of exactly who is onsite, and where they are. This information can be used to control items around the building at a granular level.
